Anderson the Big Winner at Norwich Tennis Tournament
The must be something about living on Northrup Ave. that breeds champions. Neighbors Tom Mody & Shelly Anderson of 8 and 12 Northrup, respectively, each reached the finals in 3 events this past weekend at the Norwich Tennis Tournament.
Anderson won all 3 of her finals appearances and Mody claimed one in men's singles. Trailing last year's singles champion Brian Murphy of Oxford 0-4 in the first set, Mody began to solve Murphy's volley game at net smacking shots down both lines to win 7-5, 6-3.
Murphy exacted some revenge in the men's doubles finals teaming with Tony Lubzanzski of Binghamton to beat Mody and Fred Bateman of McDonough 7-6(5) 1-6, 6-4.
Anderson defeated Elizabeth Schultz 6-1, 6-2 in singles and paired with partner Patti Cwynar to win in doubles 6-0, 6-3 over Liz and Ellen Schultz. Anderson completed her Trifecta by pairing with Husband Tom to defeat Tom Mody and Liz Schultz in the mixed doubles final.
